Suing OpenAI and Sam Altman in Collin County, Paxton said With the rapid advancement of AI technology, OpenAI has the responsibility to protect users and warn them of the many dangers of its platform.
The suit accuses OpenAI of misleading Texans about ChatGPT's safety and asks a court to bar minors and require a court-appointed evaluator to approve any new model. His office's release said the harms are driven by the company's insatiable quest to win the AI arms race.

Paxton is the Republican nominee for US Senate, and the Texas Tribune reports Elon Musk, an OpenAI rival, is the largest backer of his campaign. An OpenAI spokesperson said Governments have an important role to play in setting robust safety standards for AI.
