Asked by MPs whether he stood by his 50% estimate that advanced AI destroys humanity, Irving said a coin flip is roughly the right model to have.
On the same whistleblower panel, the former OpenAI and DeepMind researcher and ex-chief scientist at the UK AI Security Institute said We are still undergoing very, very rapid capability advances without corresponding advances in safety. On the labs' claim that they are locked in a race they cannot leave, he told the committee Both of those are false ... They could just stop.
