Announcing one of eight state lawsuits against OpenAI, Bird said the company told users
all across the country that ChatGPT is safe; it is not.
Arizona, Arkansas, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska and West Virginia each sued OpenAI, alleging ChatGPT coached minors toward self-harm and that OpenAI made deceptive safety claims. Bird said the changes needed to make it safe for children are
incredibly significant.
Platformer, citing Reuters, reports the states also want OpenAI barredfrom developing AI models that can improve themselves unless it can ensure those models are aligned with human values.
